Rain Water Harvesting |
Since the end of 2011, A to Z Textile Mills, Ltd has allocated 100,000 square meters of roof space to rain water harvesting. This water is being stored underground and being re-used in our manufacturing processes.
Recycling | Reduce, reuse, recycle. We are committed to reduce our waste, find alternative ways to reuse and recycle our waste to lessen our impact on the environment. The company has invested in the machinery to recycle bed net waste, PET bottles and PP/PE rigid plastic. We have the capacity to recycle approximately 43 tons of material per day.The company is currently undergoing tests and further research for uses of this recycled material.
Tree Pruning
|
We operate with hundreds of machines which require heat and steam for the manufacturing of our products. A to Z Textile Mills, Ltd has, on its own initiative and at its own cost, found an alternative fuel source for this requirement through the use of tree pruning material to feed our boilers. Tree pruning is a sustainable method for environmental preservation through the trimming of unwanted branches, augmenting growth on the forest floor and increasing air circulation. A to Z Textile Mills, Ltd is not paid for this job (as would be the case in most countries), but instead, the company has invested its own resources, including manpower and trucks, to prune and transport the material from the forest to the factory. We also pay to use this material. Each year, 50,000 tons of pruning material is brought from the Meru/Usa Forest Plantations, both of which are Industrial Forestry Conservation Areas. |

Waste Water Treatment |
Investment has been made in an effluent waste water treatment plant to be operational in congruence with the new knitting, dyeing and finishing plant in Quarter 1 of 2012. Although there is no law in Tanzania mandating treatment of effluent water before discharge, A to Z Textile Mills, Ltd believes in its products being manufactured in an environmentally friendly environment.
The first stage of the effluent treatment plant will treat 500,000 liters of effluent water per day. This treated water will then be re-used in various areas of the company including agriculture, construction and toilet flushing. |
